Rope Installation for Fleet Ilya Pop-Up Exhibition (Dalston)

We are happy to share that we were recently asked to do a large rope installation on Friday November 18th for Fleet Ilya’s latest Pop-Up Exhibition.

The space will be open from 20-30 November 2016 at 4-8PM daily.
Address: 25-31 Shacklewell Lane, London E8 2DE.

Our friend Despina Zacharopoulou had introduced us to a wonderful concept of ‘activating’ a sculpture and we were so inspired by this! The rope sculpture took about 3 kilometres of rope and 9 hours to be completed.

We were asked for the structure to be somewhat symmetric, which was an interesting challenge since asymmetry is the more common aesthetic choice in shibari.

In the end the construction looked a bit like an empty chest cavity, needing a heart. The ‘activation’ happened by tying and encapsulating the beautiful and talented Maisy Taylor to the inside of the structure, bringing it to life and making it whole.

Massive thank you to JessicaWabbitt for the assistance on Thursday and to FredHatt for his support on Friday.
