Who can come to this class? This class has pre-requisites for riggers and rope bottoms/models – please make sure you meet these before booking to avoid disappointment on the day:
• Riggers must know at the absolute minimum how to comfortably tie and suspend from a structural two rope Takate Kote taught to you in a class, workshop or private tuition. Ideally riggers should know how to suspend using a three rope Takate Kote and be comfortable/proficient with suspension line management.
• Rope bottoms should at the absolute minimum be comfortable being suspended in a Takate Kote and familiar with the differences between nerve and circulation impingement. Ideally rope bottoms should have some experience with suspension and with body management in suspension.
What should I bring and what do I wear? We have a communal kitchenette, fridge and microwave. Tea and coffee are free but you should bring your food and snacks (we have plates and cutlery you can use). People usually wear comfortable clothing like yoga or dance attire. We advise against loose fitting clothing and also jeans can sometimes feel a bit restrictive to move around in and difficult to tie on.
You are welcome to bring your own ropes but we also communal ropes for use. If you would like to buy ropes we sell them in the studio or online at www.shibaristore.com.
When does it take place? This is an evening class. It takes place on Saturday October 21st and Sunday October 22nd 1-7pm.
What is the class like? We know it can be intimidating to step into a rope bondage class so the classes we host have been created to make you feel welcome, accepted and comfortable. Anatomie Studio is an inclusive female-friendly, kink-friendly, LGBTQ+ friendly space welcome of people of all colours, genders, orientations and background. Our events are friendly, welcoming and educational. For more information about our philosophy and values, see here, and for resources about getting tied, tying and rope in general, see here.
Who teaches this class?
“By programming Shibari at my venue schwelle7 I played a significant role in popularizing the practice in Berlin and throughout Europe. I also created several performances for the stage that integrated elements of Japanese Rope Bondage: STILLEN (2000), DIE FARM (2006), DRYADE – A DARK FAIRY (2011) and ZERO GRAVITY ZONE (2012).
“Currently I organize twice a year the EURIX (European Rigger&Model Exchange) in Berlin, which is one of the most popular international meetings for rope artists who engage in the development of Kinbaku as an art form. More -> EURIX
“My personal approach is unconventional and does not follow any particular style. My ties adapt individually to each partner and each situation, I compose with body, rope, time and space in unpredictable ways. At the moment I call it UNDOGMATIC ROPE or BERLIN BONDAGE.”
